This feedback confirms the continued importance of BUFR within existing operational workflows and international data exchange frameworks. We appreciate the constructive engagement of the community.
Continued BUFR Support
EMADDC will maintain the production and support of BUFR files in their current form for the time being. However, BUFR will be maintained in a stable state: no new features or enhancements (e.g, new variables or template changes) will be introduced. Future development efforts will be directed toward more modern, flexible, and scalable data formats.
Transition to Other Formats
EMADDC strongly urges users to transition to alternative formats such as NetCDF. These formats provide greater flexibility, improved scalability, and alignment with evolving data standards and processing workflows, and are also fully compatible with WIS 2.0.
Transitioning to these formats is essential to ensure long-term interoperability, reduce complexity, improve cost-effectiveness, and to benefit from ongoing developments within EMADDC.
EMADDC remains committed to supporting users during this transition and will continue to engage closely with stakeholders to facilitate a smooth and sustainable migration. Hence, in parallel, EMADDC is actively improving the KDP notification client to better support users in transitioning from FTP-based workflows to KDP as FTP is no longer supported within EMADDC 3.0. These enhancements are aimed at simplifying integration, improving reliability, and enabling more efficient data delivery in line with modern distribution practices.
Further updates and guidance will follow in due course.
