The EMADDC target of achieving this milestone prior to the summer of 2024 has not been met, however, the team is optimistic that this objective will be accomplished by the end of summer 2024. Please check the website for news on these developments.
Users of the EMADDC products may notice small changes after the transition of the operational production from the current system to the AWS hosted services. The quality of EMADDC observations is maintained, with adjustments made to the software to operate effectively in the cloud and enhance the system stability and reliability.
The new system is operated on AWS EC2 compute and a separate AWS RDS Database. Internal monitoring tools have been enhanced, and the system can be easily scaled to accommodate increased data inputs. The EMADDC code has undergone thorough review to facilitate quicker and simpler code deployments in the future. The EMADDC team now has greater control over software updates, and the improved monitoring capabilities enable prompt issue identification.
Although the current operational system will remain active until further notice, EMADDC is confident in the readiness of the AWS production system. Therefore, the EMADDC system will cease uploading product files to ftppro.knmi.nl from the existing TEST system and will commence uploading files from the anticipated AWS production environment effective 5/7/2024.
During the summer holidays and with limited team availability, this additional data stream will serve as a contingency plan in the event that the current system cannot be restored after an outage. Should this scenario occur, EMADDC will inform users via this website to expedite data retrieval as necessary.
An additional update will be provided in the summer prior to the shutdown of the current system by EMADDC. Data users will not be required to take any action to accommodate this change.
Upon the completion of this phase, EMADDC will proceed with further development on EMADDC 3.0 and the creation of a new API for accessing the EMADDC data.
